A children's lullaby, called the Sailors' Lullaby due to it being adapted from multiple cultures as part of a homeworld-wide cultural restoration project on old pagan religions. The lullaby aims to provide a cohesive mnemonic on the order of the eight planets of the Beacon system (the Shadow, the Farmer, the Inventor, the Widow, the Eye, the Guardian, the Child, Marella), as well as their accompanying mythology.
Lullabies like this one are performed by two or more Sailors to soothe young children to sleep, their tentacles waving the lyrics gently in an almost hypnotic pattern. When spoken (written), this lullaby ends with “reflective word pairs” on every alternating line - these are words that, when viewed as a mirror image, take on a different meaning. The following translation attempts to preserve the “reflective word pairs” with the rhyming scheme:
O lonesome light in the sea of darkness,
Our Beacon we pray to thee.
May the Brightest of Brightest
Warm our souls and let us sleep.
The Shadow, may they guide us
Through our ails and through our sorrow;
The Farmer, may they bring us
Food and laughter here tomorrow.
Take heed of the Inventor,
Source of brilliance and pride.
The Widow is a reminder
Of our humbleness inside.
The Eye is ever watching,
But my dearest, do not weep.
The Guardian is pleading
For mercy e'er to keep.
Thine eyes reflect the Child -
Such joy, such hope, such peace!
May Marella ne'er grieve for thou,
Swim thou in glowing seas.
The gods are watching from the sky,
Fret not, feel thou no dread.
Follow our gentle prayer,
And protected, go to bed.
