Other Stations and Colonies

…it is Marella who watches over the lost. This time of year, she writes her grief across the sky. She grieves for the Sailor battered from their course by the storms, and she grieves all the more for them who are dashed on the rocks.

– An extract from the Sailor myth of Marella.

In the centuries of space exploration by all three homeworlds, civilisation has expanded across the breadth of the known galaxy. Whether it's to see the wonders of space, find a cheap job or just to create a better place to call home, many people choose to live among the stars. These colonies consist of both off-world space stations and grounded colonies, and run the gamut between small, newly settled outposts to large, sprawling societies. This list is by no means exhaustive, but does represent the largest or most politically significant off-world settlements.

Balra Off-world Colonies

Oasis

Named after the pockets of water which provide safe haven on Corico, Oasis is a lush, thriving planet, teeming with fertile ground and plentiful harvests. Oasis boasts the largest Balra civilisation outside of their native planet, both due to being one of the first Balra off-world colonies, and its fertile land allowing relatively easy settling. Oasis's government, the Oasis Republic, holds sizable sway even back on Corico, and has significant power in the Corico Forum.

Badar Colony

A small Balra outpost on Sandos III, a small planetoid on the edge of their explored space. It would be unremarkable, had it not been the site of first contact with another sapient alien species, the Sailors. Originally established as a research base, the colony has since expanded to become the only settlement in the known galaxy, pre-FTL, to have a fully integrated interspecies community.

Huxxis V

A colony world established some 50 years ago, funded by the Aldon-Jure Corporation. Two ships, with a hundred settlers each, were sent to establish the colony. Sub-light transmissions were received from the colony, documenting its growth for the first two weeks, before all communications from the settlement abruptly stopped. With the liquidation of the Aldon-Jure Corporation 5 years ago, combined with the delay in realizing the colony had gone dark, it was considered uneconomical to investigate.

Sailor Off-world Colonies

Apart from a staunch group in the Badar Colony on Sandos III, few Sailors have set up permanent residence outside of the Thousand Colours Moon due to the lack of liquid ammonia oceans. Instead, semi-permanent settlements have concentrated closer to home on the following two neighbouring moons.

The Barren One

One of the eight moons orbiting the Guardian, the Barren One houses a semi-permanent research base. It has recently been bought by the technology tycoon Omnipotent Light, allegedly the richest person on the Thousand Colours Moon. Omnipotent Light plans to fully terraform this moon for her private resort, starting with filling a crater with liquid ammonia. So far, only preliminary investigations have been conducted.

The Greater Twin

The Greater Twin is another of the eight moons, its name's counterpart being the smaller moon orbiting it (the Lesser Twin). Since it is on a wide orbit around the Guardian, a spaceport called the Expansive Dawn has been built on this rocky moon to help 'slingshot' spacecraft further into space. This spaceport is owned by the Nation of the Eternal Sky. There is no permanent settlement here, but some Sailors have been known to stay for orbits (one orbit of the Thousand Colours Moon around the Guardian) at a time.

Independent Off-world Colonies

Prismari-27 Mining Complex

The Prismari-27 Mining Complex is made up of dozens upon dozens of smaller ships assembled together into a large hulking mass. Currently located in a dense asteroid field accompanied by a nearby brown dwarf, the countless vessels and workers work around the clock extracting valuable materials. The complex is owned by the ruthless Director Onyx Guise and is part of the Prismari Industrial Association.

Built into a dwarf planet within the asteroid belt lies the Prismari Company Town. This consists of a multitude of ships of varying sizes repurposed for housing, alongside a couple of freshly built workers' quarters, all in line with company regulations for size and specific amenities. It houses many of the workers of the complex alongside being a base for its administrative functions.

The Ambrose Vale

In a galaxy brimming with opportunity on the horizon, the number of prospective groups looking to exploit the galaxy's vast resources is beginning to overflow. The Ambrose Vale is a testament to that philosophy. Established under the cover of a lush jungle moon orbiting the ‘Iria’ Gas Giant, it was deemed to be a suitable place for the criminal and nefarious to conduct their business.

The Ambrose Vale colony serves as a haven for smugglers, thieves, mercenaries and spies alike. It serves as a place of opportunity for many who wish to stay off the radar: from shady weapon dealers, to merchants offering untested and contraband equipment, to mercenaries and spies looking for their next contract. Whatever one wishes for, the Vale provides. Be careful however, for you will never find a more wretched place of scum and villainy.
