The Legacy of Seraleera Karvi

“Sir, we have a problem. Well, two.”

There’s a whir, almost silent yet loud as a ship’s thrusters in the sudden quiet of the room, as Scalding Geyser turns the torso of his suit. The jewels encrusted in the ivory surface glint as they catch the soft lights of the trading floor.

WHAT?” he speaks, voice as irreverently loud and dismissive as always, the umber sailor sneering within his glass capsule.

“Our… ah… records, have been leaked. All of them. Our… ‘business deals’… in the outer sectors, our… well, insider trading, bullying witnesses… it’s all in the public domain, sir.”

Geyser’s sneer falls slowly from his face. A look of horrified realisation dawns in its place. “THAT- PIRATE,” he chokes out, eyes bulging with anger, “I NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRUSTED HER TO KEEP QUIET. LIKE A FOOL I PAID HER RANSOM. I’LL KILL HER FOR THIS! SLOWLY AND VIOLENTLY, AS PIRATE SCUM DESERVES!

Terrified beneath the lashing fury of their boss, the Rissi assistant who drew the short straw of having to break the news is barely able to eke out their next sentence.

“W-well, that’s the- the other problem, sir. Ah… she’s dead, sir. Of old age. It was… quite peaceful, apparently.”

By way of response, Scalding Geyser has it in him only to scream.

“Come close, friend, and listen to the crimes of Sara, renowned scoundrel of the galaxies, whose exploits outnumbered her days. It is said she spent years wandering the stars, pillaging any ship who dared cross her path. Any crew unlucky enough to see her face would vanish without a trace, never to be found. Her digital plundering too plagued half the galaxy, her techniques second to none. Millions fell victim to her electronic savviness, losing fortunes to Sara’s ingenuity.“

“Come close, friend, and listen to the tales of Lira, who blessed the planets and stole the hearts of the people. Who cared for the weak and healed the sick. It is said there was no ailment she could not cure with her benevolence, no heart she could not mend. Her mere mention would strike fear into those less-than-honest, for they knew Lira was watching and felt great shame in their deeds.”

“But listen close, dear friend, and listen well! For Sara and Lira were one and the same. And hence only together can they be judged.”
