Legacies

Let me tell you a story.

When our kind were first finding our footing in this world, it is said that we stumbled on a remnant from the beyond. Some people that predated us left behind a sealed cave, and inscribed on that cave was a warning, never to open it.

Our people, with their natural curiosity, could not resist the temptation that the cave offered, and were driven to disobey the warning. The task was not a small undertaking, but, with persistence and determination, they cracked through the barrier. Yet, to their horror, they did not find treasure or ancient knowledge, but every bad thing that is now in this world came out: disease, war, hatred, pain, and death. The discovery of what they had been looking for ravaged our land, and brought us untold suffering.

But despite that, there was something left in the cave, after all the evils had come out. A fragment of hope left behind. A hope that inspired our people to overcome the challenges that we faced. It is with that hope our people united over their differences, and took to the stars in search of new horizions.

Yet with what we have discovered at the edges of known space, it is as if we have just opened up the cave again. A path has been opened for a great horror to reach our home and bring an end to our civilisation.

So let us hope we have what it takes to overcome it.
