Various Notices Across the Cartographers' Station

To my associates, past, present, and future,
We have achieved something that generations gone by could only have dreamed of. This is a moment in history that people will look back on, thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of years into the future; a paradigm shift so fundamental in our capacity to explore. Yet it was not the work of one person, or even one team that made it possible. Our perseverance over centuries of work is what has brought us to this point, to travel faster than light. Already we have been setting up communications between worlds, communications that no doubt some of you may have received so that you can be with us in person. No longer are our streams of research out of sync with the planets – a five year delay? A thing of the past now.
Through it all, the Guild strives to promote the ideals it always did. We explore, we document, we further the pursuit of knowledge. Though we are diverse in our approach, this institution was founded on ideals of cooperation between disparate groups, and newer associates would do well not to forget that. The galaxy presents a wealth of opportunities, and it is a power we should not take lightly. And yet, the search for understanding remains ever ceaseless. To the stars, near and far.

Following a review of nearby systems, the following systems have been identified candidates for first-phase exploration due to the detection of unusual or interesting phenomena.

  • ARCOL-B-218: A small, K-class main sequence star. A repeating EM signal in the radio spectrum has been identified. Signals specialists believe that a possible source of this signal is an attempt at communication by a sapient civilisation. The nature or intent of this communication is unconfirmed.
  • MONOR-C-014: A D-class white dwarf. MONOR-C-014 III, a terrestrial world in the white dwarf's orbit, casts a strangely-shaped shadow on its host star. The world's mass also appears disproportionately small relative to its apparent size.
  • DELEM-B-654: Main sequence G-class star. Spectroscopic traces and star temperature indicate a planet in the system is particularly well suited to sustain life.
  • DARKE-D-003: Black hole, with notably high spinning effect. Potential site for studying gravitational anomalies.

50 years ago, two colony ships – a hundred Balra – were sent to establish a colony on Huxxis V by the now-bankrupt Aldon-Jure Corporation. One signal was received from them, before they went dark. No attempt was made to re-establish contact, no rescue ships were sent, no help extended to them. Aldon-Jure turned us away, just as it shunned our kin.
We, the relatives, friends and sympathisers of those lost demand justice! We beseech the Guild, please help us. Now you have the capacity to travel faster than light, we can discover what happened. We can learn the fate of those we lost.

Having spent the past forty years in the Rylor system, the recently-commissioned upgrades to the Shooting Star Casino and Resort are now complete, and the ship is currently the largest FTL-capable vessel. The Casino's owner and managing director, Ardora Silver-Scale, held a briefing on board earlier this week where she announced the casino's maiden voyage through the stars. The itinerary involves three-day stops in orbit of Corico, the Thousand Colour Moon, and Khartes where guests may embark for a weekend of luxury or for an ongoing voyage. In addition, the casino plans to take low orbits of the binary suns of Kitara and the volcanic world Logon in the Katomani system.
Marshal Suvanerannas Singreen, Secretary-General for Defence of Kallimar, has issued an executive order formally prohibiting the Shooting Star, and all associated ships, from entering the Xiess system. In his statement, he additionally laid out the executive council's intent to develop a 'more stringent system for ship registration in the light of the on-going technological revolution'.

The next quarterly earning reports have finally arrived for the Prismari Industrial Association as investors flock to the company, hoping to benefit from the record breaking success. Director Onyx Guise has gone on record to display his confidence in a bright future for the PIA, even amidst objections and inquiries into working conditions by certain bodies, especially the government of Kallimar and the Conclave of United Labourers. He had the following message to pass on to us, as inside sources suggest the PIA begins facilitating for a huge expansion:
“My good friends and associates! Truly, it is an honour to stand here before you with such delightful news to share. When I founded the PIA, it was nothing but a far-off dream, hidden amidst the stars of the universe. The doubters banged on my office door, telling me of the futility of my dreams.
The doubters will continue their resistance till the end of time. Yet again however, we prove them wrong! The value in off-world exploitation is an untapped and potent resource, one we have just begun to make use of. I am particularly proud of the recent achievements made by the newest member of the Prismari Family, Osmos Industries! Their work shows how through collective unity and effort, we will continue proving the doubters wrong! The Prismari Family truly welcomes all”
– An extract from the newspaper 'The Prismari Financial Review'

To all friends and family, we need help. Ruthless companies keep pushing their luck, trampling all of us under a gigantic steel boot! We have had enough of this! With our Kallimar allies at our backs, we will drive corporate greed back. Speak to Comrade Dixtra about how you can make a difference today!
– A pamphlet distributed by the Conclave of United Labourers

Sky-Marshal Lathaleeay Veeris turned few heads earlier this week with her promotion of then-Vice Marshal Lavana Dira, the commanding officer of Alathemanay, to the rank of Marshal and the post of Secretary-General for Labour. Yesterday, the Assembly of Kallimar confirmed this appointment with six-hundred and eighty-four of the eight hundred and twelve delegates voting in favour of both agenda items.
As Commanding Officer of Alathemanay, Vice-Marshal Lavana oversaw the construction of a number of major infrastructure projects, perhaps the most notable of which being the reopening of the Alathemanay-Suvattis bridge destroyed by orbital bombardment during the war. In a short speech accepting her promotion, Lavana announced plans to educate more civil engineers as the world begins its transition from reconstruction to the burden of maintenance of existing infrastructure.
She further announced that the Council has started discussions with leading experts in light of the successful FTL tests by the Cartographer's Guild to improve the accessibility of space from the surface of Kallimar.

The universe is a boundless and beautiful place. I, Soldier Borga, esteemed documentary maker, seek to use the new opportunities of FTL to capture the natural wonders of the universe. I humbly summon all artists and nature lovers to join me in my desire to craft high-quality, respectful footage of the phenomena we uncover.
Remember, nature is there to be appreciated, not hunted.
